Pahalgam : I Am a Muslim, and I Am in Pain After the Pahalgam Attack 2025

I am a Muslim. I choose not to share my name—not out of fear, but because my identity isn’t the focus here. What matters is the anguish I feel. I am writing this two days after the harrowing Pahalgam attack 2025, still grappling with the shock and sorrow it has inflicted.

Summary

On April 22, 2025, militants attacked tourists in Pahalgam (Baisaran Valley) killing at least 28 people and injuring over 20 others. The attackers separated men and made them recite the kalima; those unable to do so were executed at close range. Among the victims was Adil Hussain Shah, a Muslim pony operator who tried to fight back and died protecting others. This brutal act has caused panic, mass departures, and deep sorrow for families of all faiths. Social media erupted with hate posts blaming the Muslim community, fueling fear and division. Yet Islam teaches, “Whoever kills an innocent person, it is as if he has killed all of humanity,” a verse that forbids such violence .

My Heartbreak

I feel tears streaming down my cheeks as I imagine mothers and fathers losing their children in pahalgam. My chest aches with shame for crimes I did not commit, and I carry the weight of their pain in my heart.

What Happened

It was a bright spring afternoon when three gunmen stormed Pahalgam, the Baisaran Valley, firing M4 carbines and AK-47s at tourists enjoying pony rides . They targeted men, asking them to recite the Islamic declaration of faith; those who failed were mercilessly shot. The attack unfolded in three spots so quickly that dozens lost their lives before security forces could respond.

Our Hero Adil Hussain Shah

Adil Hussain Shah

Adil Hussain Shah, a gentle Muslim pony operator in Pahalgam tourist place, rushed toward the gunfire to pull victims to safety. He wrestled a rifle from one attacker and saved lives before being fatally shot himself. His selfless courage in the face of terror embodies true humanity and faith.

Wrong Blame

Now, the people of India and many news agencies are pointing fingers. I know some media outlets do it for TRP, and politicians exploit such incidents for votes. But the common man doesn’t think deeply. They hear “Muslim” and assume we are the problem.

Also on social media—Facebook, X (Twitter)—people are blaming all Muslims. But I want to ask: when Muslims were killed in mob lynchings, when someone was asked their name on a train and beaten to death because they were Muslim—did we say all Hindus are responsible? No, we didn’t.

What Islam Teaches

The Qur’an declares, “Whoever kills an innocent person, it is as if he has killed all of humanity; and whoever saves a life, it is as if he has saved all of humanity” (5:32). No true Muslim can ever justify harming innocents—our faith is built on mercy, compassion, and respect for every soul.

Question to Government

Ever since the BJP government came to power in 2014, we’ve seen a wave of India-Pakistan narratives. Demonetization, the abrogation of Article 370—these were all done in the name of fighting terrorism. Yet we still had the Pulwama attack where more than 40 Indian soldiers were martyred. They used RDX, but till today no one knows how that explosive entered the country. That too happened under the same government. And now, Pahalgam has happened again—still under BJP rule. So why aren’t we asking them the tough questions?

Calling for Answers

But let’s ask the real questions. India has strong intelligence agencies—NIA, RAW, border security forces, local intelligence, army, police. Kashmir is one of the most heavily monitored regions in the country. So how do terrorists still manage to enter Pahalgam, plan, and kill our people? How did no one find out? Why aren’t journalists asking who is responsible? Who is accountable? Question arises in my mind.

Unity and Hope

Kashmiri Hindu and Muslim leaders joined in candlelight vigils, chanting “Hindu Muslim bhai bhai” to reject hatred and demand peace. Survivors spoke of warm hospitality from local hosts even as they fled—a testament to the enduring kindness of Kashmir’s people.

Conclusion

Terror cannot define us or divide our nation. As Muslims, we must raise our voices against violence, and as Indians, we must stand united—Hindus, Muslims, and all communities—for justice and healing. Hindustan Zindabad, Pakistan Murdabad.
