6 Kalma in Islam and Meaning

Explanation:
This Kalma is the heart of Islam. It teaches us that only Allah is worthy of worship, and Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) is His last messenger. When a person accepts this, they become a Muslim. This Kalma is the base of our faith.

Arabic:
أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

Pronunciation:
Ashhadu an la ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lahu wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan abduhu wa rasuluhu

Meaning:
I bear witness that there is no god except Allah, He is One, without any partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His servant and His messenger.

Explanation:
This Kalma is about giving proof from our hearts. We accept that Allah is one, has no partner, and that Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) is His special servant and messenger. It is a promise to live as true Muslims.

Arabic:
سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ وَلَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَاللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللّٰهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيمِ

Pronunciation:
Subhanallahi walhamdulillahi wa la ilaha illallahu wallahu akbar. Wala hawla wala quwwata illa billahil aliyyil azeem.

Meaning:
Glory be to Allah, all praise is for Allah, there is no god except Allah, Allah is the Greatest. There is no power and no strength except from Allah, the Most High, the Most Great.

Explanation:
This Kalma teaches us to praise Allah all the time. It reminds us that everything good comes from Allah and He is the greatest. Whenever we feel weak, we should remember that only Allah can give us strength.

Arabic:
لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ وَهُوَ حَيٌّ لَا يَمُوتُ أَبَدًا أَبَدًا ذُوالْجَلَالِ وَالإِكْرَامِ بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Pronunciation:
La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu, yuhyi wa yumit, wa huwa hayyun la yamutu abadan abada, zul jalali wal ikram, biyadihil khair, wa huwa ala kulli shay’in qadeer.

Meaning:
There is no god but Allah. He is One, He has no partner. His is the kingdom and all praise belongs to Him. He gives life and causes death. He is living, He will never die. Possessor of greatness and honor. In His hand is all good, and He is over all things powerful.

Explanation:
This Kalma makes our belief in Allah stronger. It tells us Allah owns everything. Life and death are in His hands. No one is equal to Allah. He is the King of all worlds!

Arabic:
أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّٰهَ رَبِّي مِنْ كُلِّ ذَنْبٍ أَذْنَبْتُهُ عَمْدًا أَوْ خَطَأً سِرًّا أَوْ عَلَانِيَةً وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنَ الذَّنْبِ الَّذِي أَعْلَمُ وَمِنَ الذَّنْبِ الَّذِي لَا أَعْلَمُ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ عَلَّامُ الْغُيُوبِ وَسَتَّارُ الْعُيُوبِ وَغَفَّارُ الذُّنُوبِ وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللّٰهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيمِ

Pronunciation:
Astaghfirullaha Rabbi min kulli dhambin adhnabtuhu amdan aw khata’an sirran aw alaniyyatan wa atubu ilayhi min adh-dhanbi alladhi a’lamu wa min adh-dhanbi alladhi la a’lamu innaka anta allamul ghuyubi wa sattarul uyubi wa ghaffarus dhunubi wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billahil aliyyil azeem.

Meaning:
I seek forgiveness from Allah, my Lord, from every sin I committed knowingly or unknowingly, secretly or openly. I turn to Him in repentance from the sins I know and from the sins I do not know. Surely, You (O Allah) are the Knower of the unseen, the Concealer of the faults, and the Forgiver of sins. And there is no power and no strength except from Allah, the Most High, the Most Great.

Explanation:
This Kalma teaches us to ask forgiveness for our mistakes, whether we know about them or not. Allah loves it when His servants say sorry and turn back to Him. It shows that we are humble and trust in Allah’s mercy.

اللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ أَنْ أُشْرِكَ بِكَ شَيْئًا وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ بِهِ وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا لَا أَعْلَمُ بِهِ تُبْتُ عَنْهُ وَتَبَرَّأْتُ مِنَ الْكُفْرِ وَالشِّرْكِ وَالْكِذْبِ وَالْغِيبَةِ وَالْبِدْعَةِ وَالنَّمِيمَةِ وَالْفَوَاحِشِ وَالْبُهْتَانِ وَالْمَعَاصِي كُلِّهَا وَأَسْلَمْتُ وَأَقُولُ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللّٰهِ

Pronunciation:
Allahumma inni a’udhu bika min an ushrika bika shay’an wa ana a’lamu bihi wa astaghfiruka lima la a’lamu bihi tubtu anhu wa tabarratu minal kufri wash-shirki wal-kidhbi wal-ghibati wal-bid’ati wan-namimati wal-fawahishi wal-buhtani wal-ma’asi kulliha wa aslamtu wa aqulu la ilaha illallahu Muhammadur Rasulullah.

Meaning:
O Allah! I seek refuge in You from associating anything with You knowingly, and I seek Your forgiveness for that which I do unknowingly. I repent from it and I declare myself free from disbelief, polytheism (associating partners with Allah), lying, backbiting, innovation, slander, immorality, falsehood, and all sins. I accept Islam and I say: There is no god but Allah, Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah.
