Bakra Eid 2025 or 2025 Eid Ul Adha date in India expacted on Friday, 6 June
Muslims in India and all Over World will celebrate Eid Ul Adha (also called Bakra Eid) on Friday, 6 June or Saturday 7th June in 2025 for Eid prayer and sacrifice.
Public holiday will be on Saturday, 7 June 2025 as the Indian government has declared this day a gazetted holiday. This festival makes people remember Prophet Ibrahim’s great test of faith, and so families share meat and help the needy.

When Is Eid Ul Adha 2025 in India?
- First, Muslims see the new moon of Dhu al-Hijjah, and when the moon is visible then they know that the month has started.
- Next, the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah, i.e. the day of morning prayer and sacrifice, falls on Friday, 6 June 2025.
- Then, due to the government declaring a holiday, most people get leave from work and school on Saturday, 7 June 2025.
Why Do We Celebrate Eid Ul Adha?
First, Eid Ul Adha honors Prophet Abraham (Ibrahim), who was prepared to sacrifice his son on the command of Allah.
Next, Allah sent a Ram in his place, and Ibrahim’s devotion was accepted.
Then, today we offer Qurbani, which means sacrifice.
The Story of Prophet Ibrahim
- Once, Allah told Ibrahim to give up the things that he loved the most—this will show his true value.
- Ibrahim was completely ready and he started preparing to sacrifice his son.
- But before the sacrifice could begin, Allah said, “You did a very good thing,” and sent a Ram.
- That is why, every year Muslims sacrifice an animal and share meat.
How We Celebrate in India
- First, families wake up early in the morning and then put on clean or new clothes.
- Next, after having a light breakfast, they go to the mosque or open ground for Salat al-Eid.
- Then, they sacrifice a goat, sheep, cow, or camel according to the Shariat.
- After, the meat is divided into three portions—one for their family, one for friends/neighbors, and one for the poor.
- Finally, dishes like biryani, kebabs, and sweet vermicelli (sheer khurma) are enjoyed by everyone together.
What the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) Taught
- Prophet ﷺ said that Allah has given us two big Eids: Eid Ul Fitr and Eid Ul Adha.
- He also said that one should not keep fast on Eid Ul Adha, but rather celebrate it with family and friends.
- That is why we celebrate Eid with joy and togetherness, and give Eidi to children.
Charity and Kindness
- First, before Eid people donate money or food to the poor.
- Next, mosques and charity groups distribute meat in villages and slums on Eid.
- Finally, sharing with others is following the Quranic teaching: “Those who give what they have earned to the needy out of love … say, ‘We are feeding you only for the sake of Allah; we do not want any reward or thanks from you.
Eid Ul Adha and Hajj
- First, Hajj is the great pilgrimage to Mecca, and it happens every year in Dhu al-Hijjah.
- Next, on the 9th of Dhu al-Hijjah, pilgrims stand on the plain of Arafah in prayer and reflection—this is called the Day of Arafah
- Then, the very next morning (the 10th), Muslims everywhere celebrate Eid Ul Adha, and pilgrims begin the rites of sacrifice in Mina
- After, they throw stones at the three pillars in Mina to show they reject evil, and so they finish the Hajj rituals
- Finally, both pilgrims and non-pilgrims share in the joy of Eid Ul Adha by sacrificing an animal and helping the poor
This close timing gives Eid Ul Adha or we often called Bakra Eid a special link to Hajj, because it comes right after pilgrims complete their worship, and it reminds all Muslims, that Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) willingness to obey Allah—even when the test was very hard.
